Instructor-led Training
"Upfront Contracts: How to Improve Recruitment Calls"
Challenge
The fictitious organization Save the Pine Trees experienced declining membership and lack of successful recruitment calls. Globally, however, membership in similar organizations had been increasing.
Solution
This instructor-led training training teaches participants about upfront contracts and how they can be used in recruitment calls to make them more successful and to increase membership in the organization. Learners practice with mock scenarios. This ILT could be delivered either as an in-person training or as a virtual instructor-led training (vILT).
Since most recruitment calls are performed by volunteers that are unlikely familiar with upfront contracts, the instructor-led training explains what they are before providing examples and strategies for creating them. The training also builds upon learner's prior knowledge through warm-up activities that recall both positive and negative recruitment calls in order to link the positive calls with characteristics similar to benefits of upfront contracts.
The course underwent multiple iterations with feedback from colleagues and mentors who reviewed the format, design, script, and overall presentation. The biggest changes occurred with the script to give the facilitator both clear directions and to articulate essential information. To achieve this, I included the words "Say", "Explain", "Facilitate", and "Note to the Trainer" within the speaker notes to provide clarity and direction for the instructor.
I used Google Slides to develop the training and included images & icons obtained from Canva.
Results
This project was created as a personal portfolio piece to demonstrate my ability to design and develop instructor-led training materials. From completing this project, I learned the importance of clearly articulating content and directions to the facilitator via the speaker notes. I also was challenged to produce this training knowing that I wasn't also implementing it. I've created countless instructor-led training materials as an educator, but since I also implemented those materials, I wasn't required to articulate anticipated answers or provide additional discussion prompts because I already knew them. This project demonstrates that I can communicate learning needs through instructor-led training materials.
